Week 6 Story: A Documentation of Pre-Flood Earth

Image
A Documentation of Pre-Flood Earth Og the Mighty Pre-Flood Giant      Bibliography. Folk-lore of the Holy Land: Moslem, Christian, and Jewish  by J. E. Hanauer.  Web Source      Back before the Great Flood, the Earth was an alien landscape. Its inhabitants were of a much  mightier kind than today and many other intelligent races, besides humans, roamed the surface.  Demons, elves, fairies, unicorns, dwarves, orcs etc. you name it, but by far, the most terrifying and  intimidating people were the giants. 'Giant' isn't a good enough term. Rather, Titans would be a more  befitting name of those country-stomping monsters.       The 'normal' ones stood 3,000 ells (2.13 miles) in height ( The Book of Enoch - R.H. Charles  version ). Some were far larger! When Og, king of the giants, stretched out on the ground before his  death, his body reached from Banias to Lake Merom ( Holy Land - Noah ). That's a full 4.66 miles  ( Dis

Week 5 Story: The Buddha Passes Into Nirvana

Image
You can now find this story in my World Mythology Portfolio! The Buddha Passes Into Parinibbana The Buddha Passes Into Parinibbana (Parinirvana) The Buddha Before He Passes Into Parinibbana      I, Siddhartha, was lying there on my deathbed. Hundreds of my diverse disciples surrounded me,  mourning. I could not understand why they did so. Did they have yet to understand the depth of my  teachings? Did they have yet to understand that death is only sad for those who love the illusion?  More so, I was not dying. Siddhartha was, but I wasn't. Who is Siddhartha but a vehicle that I used to  attain my liberation from Samsara? The cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. I told my disciples that they  had no need to mourn. For in a few moments, I was to pass into that state which is so elusive, even to  the Gods. Parinibbana.       I counted down the last few moments with slow, relieved breathing. The last thing that I saw  before closing my eyes, w

Story Lab

Story Lab Mythology      I really enjoyed the Crash Course Mythology videos. Mike Rugnetta explains everything in a well-spoken manner. In the first video, he laid out the definition of mythology that was going to be used. If something is referred to as a myth, it doesn't assign any truth value to it. That is to say, it doesn't make it definitively true or false. Myths are simply stories that hold a powerful significance in conceptualizing certain functions of the world and society. They are also stories that have staying power, such as lasting for centuries or millennia.       Episode 12 discussed varying theories of mythology in progression from the archaic to the more modern. It was very interesting to hear the variety of vastly different theories about the psychological, scientific, political, and religious nature of mythology. Such figures as Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Joseph Cambell, and Levi-Strauss were presented with their respective theories. I thought Jung

Feedback Strategies

Image
Constructive Feedback and Growth Mindset Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback by Marshall Goldsmith      I really enjoyed this article because I've had experiences with the strategies discussed and I think that they're very innovative and necessary. For some people, being a leader is such a power trip that they don't like the idea of receiving constructive feedback. Some people are just in leadership positions to enjoy power over others while being immune from scrutiny. They're not in it to actually lead people to a better place. Which, is the very reason leadership positions were invented in the first place; to give us some kind of orderly example to follow so that we could improve. Therefore, it's necessary that leaders receive feedback so that 1. we can make sure they're not just getting some power trip out of it and 2. to actually help our leaders help us improve. Which is what leaders are for. I also liked how this article changed feedback into

Infancy Gospels Topic Research

Image
Infancy Gospels Topic Research Joseph and Little Boy Jesus      I chose the Infancy Gospels as my research topic because they just have so many interesting and taboo stories about Jesus' early life. These stories paint a very interesting picture of Jesus that take him out of the "cliche zone" and make us remember why he's such an influential figure.  The Idol      This story from the Infancy Gospels tells about Joseph and Mary taking the boy Jesus into Egypt. When they arrive, there is much commotion in the land and an idol explains to a priest that the unknown and true God has come. The idol topples over at that instant. I could write a story based on the idol's description of Jesus and how he describes the experience as he feels the power of God's greatness fall upon the city.  Jesus the Exorcist      This gives a lot of the accounts of Jesus exorcising demons from people. I could write a really descriptive story based on one of thes

Week 3 Story: Fathering a God-Child

Image
Fathering a God-Child Joseph with Little Boy Jesus      My name is Yosef. I am a Palestinian Jew living in Nazareth of Galilee. I am writing this as a  personal documentation of the events happening in my life, as of right now. I do not think of myself  as a very literate man. I am merely a traveling carpenter. However, I feel that what I am witnessing  needs to at least be attempted at being put to scripture. So, I hope that if my written word does not  lose itself to time, future generations will be able to understand my pattern of speech.       Like I said, I live in Nazareth of Galilee. With me, lives my wife, Mary, and our son, Yeshua. He  is the reason I am writing this. I call him my son, only because it is customary. I have never actually  conceived with my beloved Mary. Yeshua was born of some miracle that I at first hesitated to call  Divine . The rabbis teach us that the Divine can never take on a human form nor would it have any

Mary and Joseph's Flight into Egypt       Bibliography. "The Idol" from The Lost Books of the Bible  edited by Rutherford H. Platt, Jr.  Web Source      Notes:      * Mary and Joseph enter Egypt with the infant Jesus.       *Commotion breaks out in the city upon their entry.       * The Egyptian idols speak to the inhabitants about the cause of the commotion. The true God, who is of greater power than them, has entered the city.       *The idols topple under God's/Jesus' power.       *A possessed boy puts Jesus' clothes on over his head and is cured.       *Mary pities a wild woman possessed by the Devil, who is then cleansed of her torment.

EK Feedback Thoughts

Image
Feedback Loop A Fixed Mindset Could Be Holding You Back      As an athlete, I definitely related to the point that this article was making. There's an old saying (I don't remember who wrote it). "Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right." I feel that people who 'can't' do things are people who put themselves in that kind of a mental state before getting stuck physically. The people who don't put limits on themselves literally don't have as many limits. Our minds can be more powerful than we give them credit for.  Rewire Your Self-critical Brain      I feel like this article gave physical evidence to back up the point of the previous article. It falsified stigmatic ideas about our brains not growing passed a certain age. What's more, this article gave scientific evidence that our emotions can affect our brains physically. This idea is very powerful to me. It shows how feedback, criticism, and our

EK Topic Brainstorm

Topic Brainstorm Homer's Odyssey      I think that the Odyssey is one of the greatest adventure stories. I've always liked adventure epics, so this story could give me a lot of ideas for my own version. There's literally infinite possibilities with a story like this. I'd certainly like to gain inspiration from it. Infancy Gospels      I've read some of the infancy and gnostic gospels about Jesus' birth and the miracles he performed as a young child. I thought they were extremely fascinating and definitely something worth exploring more. I could see myself getting a lot of story ideas from this topic.  Ancient Egyptian Myths and Stories      I don't know a lot about ancient Egyptian mythology as I haven't studied it in-depth. It seems like it could be as broad as Greek Mythology. If that's the case, there's a ton of stories waiting for me to read. I'm interested in learning more about Egyptian myth for sure.  Ala
